Meet these majestic animals in the beautiful Ica Desert
For those who can’t afford to travel to the Middle East and would like to experience camels and perhaps ride one, Peru offers a great and economical alternative for your holiday. Meet Dromedarius, a large recreation centre located 20 minutes from the Plaza de Ica, south of Lima.
Very close to Lima there is this beautiful place called “Dromedarius”. It is important to emphasize that these little animals do not suffer any kind of abuse, as they are cared for by an expert veterinarian, who looks after them and watches over their health.

“I am part of an eight-year research project on the adaptation of camels and dromedaries to the Ica desert. I am already six years into the study. I have already brought nine camels into the world in my arms, providing them with the best possible comfort. I dedicate my whole life to the care of these camels, with whom I have even slept in their arms.

Family very close to the Peruvian alpaca.
They can drink up to 135 litres of water after several weeks without hydration. These animals belong to the auquenidae family and are also a very close relative of the Peruvian alpaca.

𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐬: Has 2 humps, has more coat, is more docile, more robust.
𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬: Has 1 hump, has less fur, is taller and faster running.
How to get there?

Located exactly at the kilometre 257 of the Panamericana Sur, if you drive your own car it will take you a little less than 3 hours to get there and if you take an interprovincial bus it will take you about 4 hours and a half. The bus fare from the capital costs around 40 soles (USD 12.00) approximately.
*If you travel by bus, anticipate your descent with the driver”, you will see a large sign indicating that you have arrived at the gate and if you go with your own vehicle you can enter directly to the car park.

What can be done?
This place is a recreation centre where you can do various activities, which are the sensation of the place and offers, as its name suggests, dromedary and camel rides, dressing up as an Arab, swimming pools with slides, water games and even ATV rides. You can also enjoy facilities such as hammocks, toadstool, table football and more.
